Remove the word black from the headline and the article looses nothing. In fact, “Drug overdose deaths surge among Americans” might hit harder. The separation in print has to stop if we want the separation in life to stop.

honestly, same with articles that really push how republicans and liberals should hate each other. They are trying to split us up, just because someone has a different opinion than you doesn't mean you should hate them.

I disagree that the black distinction should be left out because there is a greater disproportion of black people that are at higher risk of developing addictions and not being able to access treatment. Omitting this racial component perpetuates the assumption that everyone has an equal chance at recovery while also ignoring that the black experience of addiction is different from a white one, and that’s just not true.

Whoa be careful before you get cancelled

What did they expect? The government has basically made life stop for the majority of people. Not that folks didn't have problems before, the extreme lock downs just made it worse for many.

Quality of life is damn near zero.

We need better mental health care for all people in the US.

The trouble is that mental health care is far from a defined system nor is it a silver bullet. What the patients often require is somebody to spend time with them who cares. If their relatives aren't able to even provide that, how can a stranger provide more?

This is terrible to hear, i really hope marijuana becomes legalized soon so people have options from Booze or Nicotine to resort to when they aren't feeling their best.

Cannabis is basically legal in California and it hasn't reduced overdoses or hard drug use.
